September 14, 1952 - October 19, 2015

It deeply saddens us to announce the passing of Joyce St Pierre in Surrey, B.C. at the age of 63. She leaves behind to mourn her, sister Eleanor Gerhardt (Ed), brother Richard Astle (Carol), nephews Richard Gerhardt (Karen), Jeff Astle and Steven Astle (Ariana) and nieces Christy Gerhardt (Sezgin), Jenny Hall (Jason), Sandra Astle, and Kimberley Astle (Carter), along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Joyce was an amazing, independent woman, much admired for her perseverance as she conquered the adversities of living with Multiple Sclerosis over these last forty-six years. She inspired people wherever she met them. Joy's passions included poetry, all genres of music, politics and, of course, her beloved Canucks! She had also been researching and working on a historic novel in her last years, set in a British Columbia coal mining town.

Joyce was born in Edmonton and attended school there until the age of fourteen, when her family relocated to Victoria, B.C.. There, she attended Reynolds Secondary School until another move was made to Port Moody, B.C. Joyce also spent a year and a half living in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan before she settled down for the long term in Surrey.

Joyce passed just as she had lived, with strength, dignity and love, and she will be missed by many. A Service of Remembrance will be held in Alberta in the spring; date, place and time to be announced at a later date.

Heartfelt thanks to Joyce's homecare workers, many of whom became her friend, to the medical staff at Surrey Memorial Hospital and to the dedicated personnel at Laurel Place Hospice for their outstanding care.

Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day;

unseen, unheard but always near, so loved, so missed, so very dear.

'Til we meet again....
